Tata Motors is once again preparing to update its SUV range with new looks and technology. The company is planning several big launches in the coming years, including Punch Facelift, Punch EV Facelift, Tata Scarlet, and the next generation Nexon.
Tata Punch and Punch EV
Tata Punch is going to get a mid-life facelift, which has been seen testing several times in India. The ICE variant can now get features like a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a new digital driver display, a two-spoke steering wheel, and a touch-based AC control panel. There will be no change in the engine; this SUV will come with a 1.2 liter naturally aspirated petrol engine as before, which will be available with manual and AMT gearbox options.

At the same time, the Punch EV facelift can see a larger battery pack taken from the Nexon EV. The current model has 25kWh and 35kWh battery options. The facelift version may add high-tech features like Tata’s new digital architecture (iRA 2.0), digital key, DrivePay, and ADAS.
Tata Scarlet: A new lifestyle SUV between Nexon and Curvv
Tata Motors is also working on a brand new SUV, codenamed ‘Scarlet.’ It will be a sub-4-meter SUV, which will be introduced as a lifestyle SUV. Its design will be inspired by the Tata Sierra, and it will be based on the ATLAS platform of the Curvv SUV coupe. However, it will not have the facility of 4WD, which will make it different from the Mahindra Thar or Maruti Jimny.
Scarlet will be offered with a front-wheel-drive setup, and it can be given a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine or a 1.2-liter turbo petrol engine. The company can also launch its electric version in the future.
Next-Gen Tata Nexon
Work has also started on the next generation of Tata’s most popular SUV, the Nexon. The SUV has been internally codenamed ‘Garud’ and will be based on a heavily modified version of the existing X1 platform. It is expected to be launched by 2027.
The new Nexon will get a major upgrade in design as well as features, including Level 2 ADAS, a new interior layout, and many premium technologies. It can be offered in petrol and CNG engine options.
Tata’s big plans: 30 new vehicles by 2030
Tata Motors plans to launch 30 new vehicles in its portfolio by 2030, which will include 7 all-new names and new generations of existing models. The company’s focus will remain on the SUV segment, especially with EV and technology-driven products.
Tata is moving towards completely refreshing its SUV lineup. In the coming years, we will see new avatars of models like Punch, Scarlet, and Nexon, which will not only be modern in design but will also be ahead of the competition in terms of features and technology.
