Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) has unveiled the new Shine 100 DX, further strengthening its hold in the country’s entry-level bike segment. This bike has been introduced especially keeping in mind the daily commuter riders and competes directly with popular bikes like Hero Splendor and Bajaj Platina 100 in the Indian market.

Design and Features

The look of the Shine 100 DX is similar to that of traditional commuter bikes, but it has also been given some new visual twists. The chrome accented headlamp at the front, plastic body finish and slim 10-liter fuel tank with single-piece seat maintain its user-friendly appeal. The bike is offered in four attractive colors, Pearl Igneous Black, Imperial Red Metallic, Athletic Blue Metallic, and Geny Gray Metallic.

The Shine 100 DX has a fully-digital LCD instrument cluster, which provides important information like real-time mileage, distance-to-empty. Its 1.9 meter turning radius makes it very comfortable in crowded areas.

The suspension system has front telescopic forks and rear twin-shock absorbers, while drum brakes on both wheels take care of braking. Along with this, tubeless tires are standard in the bike.

Engine and Performance

In the Shine 100 DX, the company has given a 98.98cc single-cylinder, air-cooled engine, which generates 7hp of power (at 7500 rpm) and 8.04Nm of torque (at 5000 rpm). This engine is mated to a 4-speed gearbox and multi-plate wet clutch. For the convenience of the riders, it has both self and kick start options.

Positioning and Competition

The Shine 100 DX is positioned below the Livo in Honda’s lineup and directly challenges bestselling models like the Splendor and Platina 100. Prices were revealed around August 1 and it could become an attractive option for budget-conscious riders.
