Renault’s much-awaited 7-seater SUV, which is currently known as the Renault Boreal, is all set to make its global debut in Brazil tomorrow. Interestingly, the SUV has also been spotted testing in India recently, indicating that it is being developed for the Indian market. Renault has confirmed that while the international version will be a 5-seater, the Indian version will be offered as a full-fledged 7-seater SUV.
More Space And Powerful Platform
The Renault Boreal is built on the company’s CMF-B modular platform, which is also used for the new generation Duster. Both SUVs will be manufactured at the Chennai plant, which will serve as an export hub not only for the domestic market but also for right-hand drive international markets.

The SUV is expected to be around the size of the international Dacia Bigster, which measures 4.57 meters in length. But in India, the length of the Boreal can be kept around 4.7 meters so that the need for third-row seating and better boot space can be met.

Launch timeline and competition in India
As per Renault’s plan, the first new generation Duster will be launched in India in the first quarter of 2026. A few months later, the Renault Boreal will be introduced during the festive season (June to October). This 7-seater SUV will compete directly with popular models like Hyundai Alcazar, Tata Safari, and Mahindra XUV700.
Not only this, but Nissan is also preparing to introduce its own 5 and 7-seater SUVs on the same platform, which means the competition is going to be even more interesting.
Engine Options
The Renault Boreal is likely to get the same 1.3-litre, 4-cylinder turbo petrol engine, which will also be available in the new Duster. This engine generates around 151bhp of power and 250Nm of torque. It can be seen with 6-speed manual and 7-speed dual-clutch automatic (DCT) transmission options.
The Brazilian version will get a flex-fuel version of this engine, which will have more tuning. Apart from this, the option of a strong hybrid system can also be given in Boreal, as is found in Dacia Duster. It will include a 1.6-liter petrol engine, a battery pack, and an electric motor, which together will give a combined power output of 140hp.
What to expect?
Renault Boreal is not only being introduced as a larger version of Duster, but it is part of the company’s strategy under which it wants to strengthen its lineup in India again. Given the growing demand for large family SUVs, the Boreal can prove to be a game-changer for Renault in the Indian market.
