Tesla’s India debut is not far away now. The American electric car manufacturer is going to open its first dealership in India in Mumbai, after which the second dealership will start in Delhi. It is believed that with this, Tesla’s first car can be launched in the Indian market around the festive season.
Tesla Model Y is Constantly Seen
The Tesla Model Y is being seen continuously on the roads of India during testing these days. All these units are of the new generation, which has been internally codenamed ‘Juniper’. Karnataka’s red number plates and heavy camouflage have also been seen on these testing units.

What will be the price?
According to a Bloomberg report, the value of Model Y units imported into India is said to be around ₹ 27.69 lakh. But after adding a hefty import duty of over ₹ 21 lakh, its potential ex-showroom price can be quite high. Initially, the Tesla Model Y will be sold in India as a fully imported unit (CBU).
Design and color options
The new Model Y has several design upgrades over the older model.
- The new slim headlamps at the front give it a more modern look.
- Connected taillights are now available on the rear side.
- Talking about the exterior colors, it is available in Pearl White, Stealth Gray, Deep Blue Metallic, Ultra Red, Quicksilver, and Diamond Black.
- The interior has only two options: an all-black or an all-white theme.
Performance and Range
The Tesla Model Y comes with an all-wheel drive system, which gets power from a long-range battery. Its features:
- EPA certified range: 526 km
- 0 to 96 km/h: just 4.6 seconds
- Top speed: up to 200 km/h
Launch timeline
As preparations for dealerships are intensifying and testing spottings are increasing, it indicates that the Tesla Model Y can be launched in India very soon. Also, the Tesla Model 3 can also join the starting lineup.
While Tesla’s entry in the electric SUV segment in India will bring a premium option for the users, it can also become a serious challenge for other automakers.
