American company Tesla, famous for electric vehicles all over the world, is finally going to make its debut in the Indian market. The company will launch its first experience center in Mumbai on July 15, 2025. This showroom will be at Jio World Drive in BKC, Mumbai. For the first week of launch, this center will be open only for VIPs and business partners, while general customers will be able to experience Tesla vehicles from next week.

Tesla’s first car in India will be Model Y, which is a midsize electric SUV. This SUV is being imported directly from China and brought to India and will be sold as a completely built-up (CBU) unit. This is the reason why its price will be much higher than in the US or China. Its price in China is around $32,270 (about ₹ 28 lakhs), but after 70% import duty and other charges in India, its price can exceed ₹ 40 lakhs – which can also go beyond its price of $46,630 (about ₹ 40 lakhs) in the US.

Tesla Model Y is not only a stylish SUV, but it is also very powerful in terms of features. It has features like heated and ventilated seats, power recline second-row seats, hands-free automatic trunk, 15.4-inch central touchscreen, 8-inch screen for rear passengers, blind spot monitoring, and over-the-air updates.

Tesla claims that through the Supercharger network, the Model Y can charge up to 293 km of range in just 15 minutes. But at present there is no Supercharger network in India. However, the company has planned to develop it phase wise.
The company is going to open its second showroom in India in Delhi by the end of July. Meanwhile, pre-order booking of Tesla Model Y will start from next week and the first delivery will be given by the end of August 2025. According to some leaked documents, the first batch is of rear-wheel drive variant which has already reached India.
India can become a strategically important market for Tesla as the company’s global sales are currently declining. India has now become the third largest automobile market in the world, so Tesla’s presence here can make the EV segment more competitive.
The experience center to be opened in Mumbai will give customers all the information related to Tesla cars – such as variants, customization options, features and possible pricing. Given the growing interest in electric cars in India, Tesla’s entry can prove to be a big moment for the automobile industry.
