TATA Motors has set a new milestone in the Indian automobile sector by announcing that their sub-compact SUV Tata Punch has crossed the production mark of six lakh units. Launched in October 2021, the Punch has achieved this feat in just less than four years, making it the fastest SUV to reach 6 lakh production in the country.

This figure includes units of the petrol variant of the Tata Punch as well as the all-electric Punch.ev launched in January 2024. The achievement was not just limited to production, but the Punch has also won the title of the best-selling car in India in the calendar year 2024, a first in the history of Tata Motors.

Expressing happiness on this milestone on behalf of the company, Vivek Srivastava, Chief Commercial Officer, Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Limited, said that “Punch symbolizes the thinking of a new India, courageous, self-reliant and confident. He Also said that crossing the six lakh unit mark is not just a production number, but a testimony to the trust of millions of Indian customers who have adopted this vehicle”.
Punch is considered a game-changer in the entry-level SUV segment in India. With its attractive design, 5-star safety rating and powertrain options like petrol, CNG and electric, this vehicle has become popular in every locality, from cities to small towns. According to the company, 70% of the customers buying the petrol variant of Punch are first-time car buyers, while 25% of Punch.ev customers include women. Punch’s share in tier-1 cities is 24%, 42% in tier-2 and 34% in tier-3 areas, which shows its all-India appeal.
Punch ICE Specification
the ICE variant of the Punch comes with a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that generates 85 bhp of power and 114 Nm of torque. It is paired with a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT gearbox.
Punch EV Specification
The Punch EV is available in two variants. The standard version gets a 25 kWh battery, which claims to offer a range of 315 km on a single charge and gives a power output of 80 bhp. At the same time, the long range version comes with a 35 kWh battery, which has a range of 421 km and offers 120 bhp of power and 190 Nm of torque.
The Punch accounts for 36% of Tata Motors’ total passenger vehicle sales and is leading the sub-compact SUV segment with a 38% market share in fiscal year 2025. It has also registered a growth of 15% year-on-year, reflecting its ever-stronger customer base and wide reach.
