FAW Toyota has launched its mid-size coupe-style electric SUV, bZ5, in China as the latest addition to its bZ series. This model features BYD’s Blade Battery technology, which ensures reliability in both performance and safety.
Battery, Range & Charging Details
The bZ5 is powered by a 65.28 kWh LFP battery that is capable of delivering a range of 550 km as per the CLTC test cycle. Its energy efficiency is 13.5 kWh per 100 km, which is considered to be a pretty impressive figure in the mid-size SUV segment.

Apart from this, a bigger battery pack is also available, 73.984 kWh, which increases the range to 630 km. As for charging, DC fast charging takes 29 minutes to charge the SUV from 30% to 80%.
Performance, Platform & Dimensions
The bZ5 is built on Toyota’s e-TNGA EV platform. It comes with a single motor front-wheel drive configuration that generates 200 kW (about 268 hp) of power. The SUV has a 0-50 km/h sprint time of just 3.4 seconds.

Tough competition from Nissan
The Toyota bZ5 competes directly with the recently launched Nissan N7 EV, which was launched in China in April 2025. The N7 starts at just $16,700 (₹13.90 lakh) and has already received 18,000+ orders.
Toyota’s Buzz5 looks like a complete SUV package at this range and price point, especially for those who want a long range, practical design and brand reliability.

Will it be launched in USA ?
The Toyota bZ5 is currently a China-only model, but Toyota is also actively working on EV plans. If the response in the global market is good, it could be launched in USA as well as India.
