Vietnamese electric vehicle manufacturer VinFast has started pre-booking for its two electric SUVs, VF6 and VF7, in India. The company’s move is being considered a big step towards making its strong presence in the Indian EV market. Customers can pre-book these vehicles for a token amount of just ₹ 21,000. The launch is expected by the end of this year.

The VinFast VF6 will be offered in two variants, Eco and Plus, both variants have a 59.6 kWh battery. With this battery, the VF6 will be able to give a driving range of around 381 to 399 km, which varies according to the variant.

The Eco variant will give power of 172 bhp, while the Plus version will be slightly more powerful and generate power up to 198 bhp. The company plans to launch it within ₹ 25 lakh (ex-showroom).

VF7 is a mid-size electric SUV designed by VinFast in collaboration with Italy’s Torino Design. This SUV will be available in two versions, Eco and Plus.The Eco variant will have a front-wheel drive setup, which gives 172 bhp and 250 Nm of torque.

At the same time, the Plus version will get all-wheel drive, which will be capable of giving 344 bhp power and 500 Nm torque. Both variants have a large 75.3 kWh battery, which can give a range of up to 450 kilometers according to the WLTP cycle. The estimated ex-showroom price of VF7 can be kept up to ₹ 35 lakh.

VinFast plans to locally assemble its vehicles in India. The company is building a new manufacturing plant in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, which is part of its $500 million investment. Once operational, the factory will be able to produce 1.5 lakh units annually and will also provide direct employment to around 3,500 people.

With the VF6 and VF7, VinFast has made a strong statement by entering the Indian electric vehicle space. With factors like premium design, strong battery range and local production, both these SUVs can give tough competition to existing market players.
