Volkswagen is all set to take over the EV market once again, but this time the focus is not on big SUVs or luxury EVs, but on those looking for a compact, stylish and affordable electric car.
The company may soon launch the ID.2, an electric hatchback that is the EV successor of the Polo. And yes, the expected launch date is 2026-27.

Volkswagen’s goal is clear to make an EV that is perfect for both small cities and metro areas. The ID.2 will be around 4.4 metres long and is planned to be priced below ₹22 lakh (approximately $26,000). This will make it an affordable and electric alternative to the current Golf, which is now being phased out.
The ID.2 will be completely front-wheel drive and will share its platform with the Cupra Raval (another EV from the Volkswagen Group). Interestingly, both vehicles will be manufactured at the Seat plant in Martorell, Spain.
While the battery details are not yet confirmed, according to the report, the ID.2 is expected to get a 50kWh to 80kWh battery, which can offer a range of up to 400 km on a full charge. This makes it an excellent urban-use EV for those who want more performance at a lower cost.

Volkswagen is not going to limit itself to just the ID.2 hatchback. A rugged and SUV-type version is also in the planning, which will be called the ID.2 X. This model could be the electric successor to the T-Cross, and is likely to arrive in 2026 or 2027.
The ID.2 is not just another electric car, it is a clear signal from Volkswagen that EVs will not be limited to the premium segment. The company is now focusing on models that are within the reach of everyone, without compromising on design or features.
